Kubica set to drive for Ferrari at Monza?
It has emerged that BMW Sauber regular driver Robert Kubica will be behind the wheel of a Ferrari at Monza in place of Luca Badoer according to Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport. Kubica’s assignment is a surprise development in the onging “who will replace Badoer” saga. His team, BMW Sauber, is withdrawing from the sport at the end of 2009 which appears to have paved the way for the Pole’s Ferrari appointment.
Badoer has substituted for recuperating Felip Massa who was injured in a horrific qualifying incident at the Hungarian Grand Prix last month. However Badoer has had a miserable “comeback” to Formula 1 and most recently, in Belgium, he was last of the cars running at the end while Kimi Raikkonen in the other Ferrari won the race. The Italian’s pace has been dismal and a shunt in qualifying at Spa did little to enamour himself to fans or the Ferrari team.
At Spa there was talk of Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella taking up Massa’s seat at Monza. This option was not confirmed by Fisichella or his team boss Vijay Mallya. The latter actually sending out a statement vehemently denying the possibility.
Kubica should fit in well with the Italian team as his early career was focussed on racing in Italy.
