Sauber hopes for major sponsor before Bahrain

Sauber looking "naked" without major sponsors at Jerez

Feb.19 (GMM) Sauber is working hard to secure a major sponsor prior to next month’s Bahrain season opener.

When the Ferrari powered car was recently launched, it featured no obvious bodywork signage, with the exception of a small Certina decal on the side mirrors.

The only other signage was the names of the two drivers on the engine cover, and at Jerez this week those stickers have been replaced with the simple message ‘See you in Bahrain’.

“The team is making efforts to get to Bahrain with a major sponsor,” Spanish driver Pedro de la Rosa is quoted as saying by the Motor21 website.

He clarified that, in the wake of BMW’s departure along with many major backers, Sauber maintains the “capacity to develop the car” this year.

“But we are trying to get more sponsorship” for this purpose, the 38-year-old added.

Peter Sauber has always somewhat been a guy that does htings in a slightly different way.

i think he should tear a page out of Brawns’ 09 title winning season and go for a different sponsor at every race. THe FIA should alllow that teams change ads at every race to be able to fully utilise the strategic marketing potential of various brands around the world. LIke Cannon did in Singapore and that Brazilian Beer Brand in Brazil last year.
