Mar.10 (YF1) Cosworth has had a long and distinguished career in Formula One, beginning in 1963. Two Formula One teams were supplied with Cosworth engines in 2006: the Williams team using Cosworth V8 engines, transmissions, and associated electronics; and the Scuderia Toro Rosso team using rev-limited Cosworth V10s based on 2005 spec engines.

The end of the 2006 F1 season marked the end of Cosworth’s remarkable 43 year association with the series, as no team opted to use Cosworth for 2007. Cosworth will return to Formula One in 2010 as an engine supplier to Williams and three new teams Hispania Racing F1 Team, Lotus F1 Racing and Virgin Racing, with first units shipped in January. Cosworth’s 176 wins make it one of the most successful engine manufacturers to race in F1, second only to Ferrari in victories.

The following key events provide snapshots of the five decades that have served to create the legendary reputation of Cosworth.

1958 - Cosworth founded by Keith Duckworth and Mike Costin set up in modest premises in North London, UK.
1960 - First race win for Cosworth as Jim Clark delivers the first win in a Cosworth-engined car in a Formula 2 race at Goodwood on March 19th.
1967 - First Formula One win with the Lotus 49 of Jim Clark completes the 90 laps at Zandvoort to take the chequered flag and the first victory for the Cosworth DFV engine.
1968 - First Constructors’ and Drivers’ World Championships with Graham Hill and the Colin Chapman’s Lotus team triumph in an emotional year for the team.

1969 - Jackie Stewart takes Drivers’ Championship 3 times takes first of three titles. Also won in 1971 and 1973.
1978 - Championships for Lotus in the famous ground effect Lotus 78 delivers both Constructor’s and Driver’s titles to the Lotus team with Mario Andretti at the wheel.
1979 - First win for Williams when Clay Regazzoni takes the chequered flag at Silverstone to deliver the very first victory for Williams Grand Prix Engineering. His FW07 car is powered around the 68 laps by the venerable Cosworth DFV, a combination that secures 300 points for the team in 43 races.
1980 - Sustained success for Williams through until 1982 asthe Cosworth-powered FW07 secures 11 victories as Williams take back-to-back Constructor’s titles and Driver’s Championships in 1980 and 1982 with Alan Jones and Keke Rosberg.
1994 - First title for Michael Schumacher wins his first World Championship in a Cosworth HB-powered Benetton.
1998 - Ford buys Cosworth and the Jaguar Racing team is created as the flagship of Ford’s Premier Performance Division. After many years of close association Cosworth becomes a Ford business.
2003 - Giancarlo Fisichella wins Brazillian GP for Jordan and the most recent win for a Cosworth-powered car.
2004 - Cosworth bought from Ford and current group formed after 6 years as a Ford business, Cosworth returns to private ownership. The Cosworth group is created to provide high performance mechanical and electronic engineering technologies.
2010 - Cosworth returns to Formula One engine supply after a 3 year absence, Cosworth supplies the CA2010 engine to four teams in the Formula One World Championship.
