Dec.20 (PVM) Lucas di Grassi overcame a star-studded field to win the thrilling final of the 2010 Desafio das Estrelas (Challenge of the Stars) at the Kartódromo Arena Sapiens in Florianapolis, Brazil.

The event which is organised by Ferrari F1 driver Felipe Massa, featured top Brazilian race drivers including several current and former F1 drivers doing battle in race prepared karts.

At the end of the final day Virgin Racing rookie Di Grassi narrowly edged out Massa, Rubens Barrichello and lady racer Bia Figueiredo to take the title. After the quartet tied on points, a final shoot-out was required to determine the winner. Di Grassi delivered when it mattered to take top honours and the 2010 title.

Massa admitted that even in his dreams he could have imagined such an outcome with a dramatic charge, “I never thought we would see a final like this. No one was certain who would take the title. Congratulations to Lucas for winning this one.”

One of the highlights of the final day was lady racer Figueredo’s tussle with Williams F1 driver Barrichello. Figueredo said, “I never thought I could overtake a driver as good as Barrichello in a race.”

Barrichello was good humoured in defeat, “She was faster and she even waved bye-bye. You never do that to anyone in Formula 1!”
