F1 Rookie of the Year: Kamui Kobayashi
26 December, 2010
Dec.26 (YallaF1.com) Kamui Kobayashi is the 2010 YallaF1.com Rookie of the Year.
The Japanese son of a sushi chef has catapulted himself into the hearts of just about every Formula 1 fan for his tenacious and often spectacular exploits at the wheel of his Sauber.
Kobayashi’s GP2 record was moderate, he did not set the scene alight like his contemporary Pascal Grosjean, but unlike the Frnechman he has blossomed in Formula 1. Unphased by the hype, Kobayashi has instead set up home in the upper echelons of the sport.
The 24 year old has a bright future in F1 which started last year with a couple of races for Toyota before the team folded.
Since then Kobayashi has terminated Pedro de la Rosa’s career in F1 by thoroughly outshining the Spaniard. he did pretty much the same with the highly rated Nick Hiedfeld.
Although accident prone, Kobayashi has a certain vigour that endears him to fans and even rivals. Robert Kubica has high regard for the japanese driver who was simply stellar in the European Grand Prix in Valencia where he finished seventh by passing both Fernando Alonso and Sébastien Buemi in the final laps of the race.
Doyen of TV commentators Murray Walker stated that Kobayashi is “without a doubt Japan’s best F1 driver yet.” We agree Mr Walker!
