Ferrari hinge 2011 hopes on aero package
8 January, 2011
Jan.08 (PVM) Ferrari are pulling out all the stops in the aerodynamics department to ensure their Formula 1 car for the 2011 season has the edge over its rivals and giving their driver pairing of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa a package with winning potential from the first race in Bahrain onwards.
Nicholas Tombazis, the Maranello team’s head of aerodynamics, revealed, “Especially in the field of aerodynamics, our car [in 2010] was not as good as Red Bull. So we have restructured the aerodynamics department, updated our wind tunnel and launched an ambitious development program. And of course we are trying to build different components and be innovative ”
He added, “We will be taking a pretty big step forward for the first race. The current configuration has a great potential for development.”
The first 2011 Ferrari chassis designated 288 has been assembled at the factory and will be unveiled at Fiorano late January before the first test session in Valencia.
Ferrari finished third in the 2010 F1 constructors world championship with Alonso second in the driver’s points standings.
