Vettel nominated for Laureus world award

Jan.11 (PVM) Red Bull Racing Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel is one of six nominees for the Laureus World ’2010 Sportsman of the Year’ award which will be presented at the annual ceremny to be held in Abu Dhabi next month.
Germany’s Vettel, who in 2010 became the youngest winner ever of the Formula One World Championship will be up against Spaniard Rafael Nadal who became the first man since 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same year in 2010, Philippines’ boxer Manny Pacquiao and, for the first time ever, three stars from team sports – LA Lakers basketball star Kobe Bryant and Barcelona footballers Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
The Laureus Awards, whose nominations are finalised following a ballot by the world’s media, recognise sporting achievement during a calendar year are the premier honours on the international sporting calendar.
The winners will be voted by the sports jury,made up of 46 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of all time, and will be unveiled at a globally televised Awards Ceremony on 7 February 2011 in the UAE capital.
“This has been a great year for sport. There has been a host of amazing individual and team performances and I congratulate all the nominees and look forward to what should be a great awards ceremony next month in Abu Dhabi,” said Laureus World Sports Academy Chairman Edwin Moses.





Manny Pacquiao should win this award. He is the Michael Shumacher in boxing. Winning 8 titles in 8 different wight class. And to think, the hevier he goes, the nastier his oponents end up…
My money is on Nadal. Tennis is the only no wheel sport I follow.
