Aug.1 (GMM) A 2012 Formula1 contract will “probably” be Mark Webber’s last, claimed Red Bull’s driver manager and consultant Helmut Marko while being interviewed on television during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.

Will 2012 be Mark Webber's last season in F1?

The Austrian, F1 advisor to Red Bull billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, is known to be closer to fellow German-speaker Sebastian Vettel’s side of the garage, and he stunned F1′s Australian contingent on Sunday by effectively announcing 34-year-old Webber’s impending retirement.

Marko told broadcaster One’s coverage of the Hungarian grand prix that Webber is “probably going to retire” next year.

He said Red Bull therefore “would need to find one of our juniors who can replace Mark Webber”.

Ironically, a leading candidate is Webber’s countryman Daniel Ricciardo, who has been slotted in at HRT alongside Italian veteran Vitantonio Liuzzi.

“First of all, he has to beat his teammate, and he has to progress,” said Marko.

“He (Ricciardo) is losing too much in the pitstops, and losing too much when he is being lapped so he must get the feeling. And we want him to fight with the people who are around him.”

Marko needs to pull his head in. He is a trouble maker. Webber has at least three years at this level given his fitness. Mansell won a championship at 37. I am sure Webber would have a chuckle at Marko’s comment. And who in their right mind would expect Ricciardo to be faster than Webber in a race?

Webber’s retirement present from RBR should be a Celebrity Boxing match between Webber and Vettel. Webber getting a chance to vent some rage would be great!!! Now theirs something on Sky TV I would pay for pay per view!!!

I think RBR would be better off if Marko retired last year.
