Aug.31 (PVM) Fernando Alonso has stated that he would welcome Sebastian Vettel to his Ferrari team provided the world champion brought along design guru Adrian Newey who has been responsible for penning some of the successful race cars in Formula 1 history, including the currently dominant Red Bull RB7.

Immediately after the Belgian GP, where Red Bull scored a 1-2, Alonso acknowledged, “At the moment, we must congratulate our opponents, who are doing a fantastic job.”

The Spaniard told AutoBild, “Adrian Newey is certainly the man for the decisive success.”

“My dream is to win for Ferrari. I’m sure a lot of engineers want to work for Ferrari, Newey could thus come to Ferrari,” said the Spaniard who won two world titles with Renault.

“Many drivers want to race for Ferrari, Sebastian [Vettel] is definitely welcome,” added Alonso. “If you’ve not driven for Ferrari, your career is incomplete.”

Alonso trails Vettel in the championship points standing by 102 points with seven grands prix left to run this season.

Alonso is the smartest driver in F1 – and very possibly still the most talented. Of course, he is dead right. Adrian Newey is Red Bull’s secret weapon. Newey is the greatest designer in F1, but even he can be replaced. New design talent is rising just as fast as new driving talent. Red Bull is on top right now, but their reign will not be permanent.

I think Pat Fry is capable of providing Alonso with a dominant car. In fact, the 2012 Ferrari might be just that, Alonso just needs to wait a bit.

Fry also repaired this year’s car, which may yet take the drivers’ titiel for the Spaniard.

The bigger question is “Does Adrian dream of working with Alonso?” :)

They would make a formidable partnership. Maybe more so than the Schumi/Braun/Todt pairing.

Hehehe, right! Drivers’ incomplete careers notwithstanding, Newey was clear on his wish to work at a smaller team, and make Redbull his last one before retirement. Of course, as we’ve so often seen in Formula 1, things do change.
