Berger critical of Mercedes team orders
1 September, 2011
Sep.1 (GMM) Gerhard Berger has scolded Mercedes for apparently imposing team orders during last weekend’s Belgian grand prix.
Shortly before Michael Schumacher passed his teammate Nico Rosberg at Spa-Francorchamps, the younger German was told by the pitwall to conserve fuel.
Former grand prix winner Berger told Servus TV that the position switch was conceived deliberately to give Schumacher a grandstand finish on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his debut.
“It should have been a race and not a commercial shoot,” the Austrian groaned.
Team orders are legal in 2011 but Berger believes that “in the circumstances it is totally wrong for Mercedes to do such strategies”.
“They should be putting more thought into making a winning car,” he said.
Berger also commented on McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, who was involved in two crashes last weekend at Spa.
“He is extremely aggressive and the best overtaker in the field, but at times he overdoes it.
“If he was sitting in the Red Bull, he would not have to take so many risks and so he would get into a lot less mischief,” he said.

What a load of b********it.Schumi outclassed his team mate, over and over again.Doubtless Berger is a friend of Keke Rosberg………….Berger what a bad sport you are, making yourself look childish…you could never match up to Schumi even when you were supposedly at your best.
Schumacher would of overtook Rosberg anyway,Mercedes just did’nt want them to both take each other out.
Also Red Bull buys them in into almost every sport in the world (even soccer). But for example in skating, bmx, snowboarding and tons of other extreme sports I am sure that the die hards (not the sponsored youngsters but the Hawks and the Hoffmans of the sport) don’t like the coming of that big budget circus into their sport/life.
Berger you belong to the past, a non shining one, just leave the stars shine on their own, Michael’s records speak for themselves, and hamilton is a big mouth, speaks a lot, and put up little, Mercedes know what they are doing and if you feel it is pay back time, regarding michael, then you should consider that things may click again for him. If you were a friend you would consider cooling the war of rumors and press conferences regarding him but guess you just add some oil to the fire.
Berger has to shut up and look at red bull first, Webber let Vettel pass him on the start finish straight after the safety car. Red bull kills the sport with their big budget and illegal nanocar and their freakin teamorders. They even sabotage his car and yet that dombo signs for 2012, understand who can (I liked Mark a lot, but it ended in Spa on the start finish, despite his majestic overtake on fernando in Eau Rouge)
Mclaren, Lewis and Jenson showed us how it should be done, they had fanatstic fights between them this year, respect.
It’s Ok to help your teammate for the title at the end of the year, not from the beginning.
Yea yea berger look at red bull first, Mark let Vettel pass him on start finish straight after safety car, and they already have the fastest car in the field, no need to do things like that. Red Bull kills the sport with their nanocar and freakin orders. The most respect goes out to Jenson, Lewis and the Mclaren team, they showed us this year how it’s supposed to be done. If someonen helps his teammate at the end of the year ok, but not from the start. So Berger shut the **** up!
