Mercedes wants Schumacher for long term

Oct.20 (GMM) Mercedes regards Michael Schumacher as an integral part of its push for success in Formula 1, motorsport boss Norbert Haug revealed this week.

Currently, the seven time world champion is committed to the German marque – and his return to F1 – only until the end of next season.

2012 will be the third year since Mercedes took over Brawn GP, with motor sport director Haug insisting that a push to the top of the sport takes longer than that.

“We are going to keep establishing our new Silver Arrows works team in formula one,” he told Eurosport Deutschland.

“Our development and our learning will bring as upwards gradually, step by step, from the fourth power at the moment to third, second and ultimately to position number one,” added Haug.

“This can be achieved only through years of hard and focused work. The current world champions (Red Bull) took five years before their first success.”

And Haug insisted that Mercedes has the right drivers – Schumacher and his German countryman Nico Rosberg – for the project.

“We are completely satisfied with them, as once we give our drivers a winning car, they will win with it,” he said.

“Michael is a motivator through and through. He has a plan just as he had one at Ferrari, where he fought for five years for his first (Ferrari) title.

“He has the same bite as ever and remains one of the very best drivers in the field,” added Haug.

If Michael Schumacher stays longer for Mercedes i will be jumping up and down with glee, as he is such a great f1 driver, it will be more exciting to watch but if he goings after 2012 i think the viewing ratings will fall, it is Michael thats makes formula 1 a great entertaining sports programme. when he retired in 2006 the f1 programmes were boring.

You sir, stand in good company here in this forum..you know you nearly had me converted for a tenth of a second with that insightful statement…so much substance, so humbling. Did you think of it all by yourself or do Schumacher fans share brain cells or something?

No one here doubts MS’s accomplishments and he alone is the sports most successful driver. But is he the sport’s GREATEST DRIVER? No.

The last Drivers poll rates AS as the sports greatest driver. From the drivers themselves. MS would tell you himself if you asked him. I also contend politics at the time prevented AS from winning at least one WDC. MS still should give his ’94 title to Damon Hill.

Case in point: Alain Prost has four WDC’s but is nowhere considered anywhere near AS. Two completely different drivers.

Lastly, AS never got disqualified and had all his points taken. (1996)

    @ Jimmy

Honestly i wouldnt know who the greatest is…one thing I do know…statistics dont make the best driver Jimbob. Goes deeper than what you Schumi fans can comprehend…Schumi had 91 wins and whatever championships but he was always and still is like his fans, a full blown geek with the personality of a refrigerator. Vettel suffers from the same aberation….bloody boring germans

    @ Copunk_F1

Do you reckon you could repeat yourself just once more?

Love him hate him, it doesn’t matter. The guy has 7 world titles under his pants and all of us in this thread don’t even have one. So stop dissing, cussing the guy and stop with all the “all-knowing” attitude because we wont ever know how it is to be Formula 1 driver ever. Nuff said.

  31. Sennauno 21 October, 2011 at 2:37 am

    @ Jimmy

hey schumi fan…little hot under the collar are we? haha easy tiger, dosent take much of a comment to erupt your blind radical faith in your Fuhrer…

How come Senna can put a Toleman on the podium but the greatest cant put a mercedes on it? The greatest hasnt won a race in 2010 and he wont be winning one in 2011 so i can understand you guys being so sensitive :) sniff sniff .Schumacher’s won’t quit because of his massive ego…for Mercedes his value is enormous even if he dosent win a race 1. He is a massive drawcard for sponsors and general exposure 2. Not a bad mentor for nico

I know…its hard to imagine anyone else being better when Schumacher is all youve seen in your miserable life ;)

    @Tsstheseason

Please nescar driver? don’t put that man in the same basket with schumi, they are two worlds, driving in circle is not racing, only american brain can understand that, same as rugby ups i mean football??

Schumi is one and only no1 driver, and yes he can easily drive until he’s 50.

  33. Tsstheseason 20 October, 2011 at 8:07 pm

Schumi: The next Mark Martin of Formula 1.

  34. jimmy 20 October, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Yes schumi will get one more title, and he can give you that stick so that you can put it way up in you dump ass,all of you tards can be only jealous of the best ever!

  35. Sennauno 20 October, 2011 at 4:05 pm

Fangio won his last championship when he was 46…maybe this is Schumi’s last milestone? rumour has it that Mercedes offered his a carbon fibre walking stick as part of his contract extension beyond 2012…

  36. christie 20 October, 2011 at 2:48 pm

    Go Schumi!!!

  37. mike 20 October, 2011 at 1:06 pm
