Alonso says Massa is one of the best

5 November, 2011

(L to R): Fernando Alonso (ESP) Ferrari with team mate Felipe Massa (BRA) Ferrari.

Felipe Massa with Fernando Alonso

Nov.5 (PVM) Prior to Fernando Alonso’s arrival at Ferrari, Felipe Massa was the darling of Maranello but the affections have shifted and the Brazilian is playing second fiddle in the team, but Alonso denies that he is responsible for destroting his team mate’s confidence.

Speaking exclusively to TotalRace, Alonso said, “I don’t think that Felipe’s confidence is destroyed. I think he is the same driver as ever, extremely strong. We saw this clearly in the last six races, especially in qualifying. We are very close if we evaluate all the elments.”

However Alonso clearly has the upper hand in race conditions. he tried to explain, “In the race I do not know. Certainly if the car is not very fast, it’s very difficult to produce a good performance. I have great respect for Felipe and consider him to be one of the best drivers in the world. I am sure that if all goes well and we have a competitive car next year from the beginning, he is one of the favorites to win in every race.”

Alonso lies third in the F1 world championship standings with 227 points and a single win to his credit, while Massa lies sixth and has yet to make it onto the podium this year.

    @visz963

‘Alonso has already been beaten by Hamilton at Mclaren, no more proof is necessary that Alonso is not the best driver’

Your way of seeing things are a little on the simple side mate. Do you really think if a driver is beaten by a driver before the he is will always be beaten? How do you explain Button beating Hamilton this year? do you remember who Renault dropped in 2003 for Alonso? Truth is drivers are always in constant evolution and conditions, rules and teams are ever changing

You keep refering to Hamilton already proving to be faster than Alonso therefore better in his first year in formula 1. Let me break up the McLaren 2007 situation for you

    1. Ron Dennis signs current champion Fernando Alonso. This is a major coup from Dennis as A) He has just taken Alonso from the competition hence eliminating a major threat B) As current double world champion and with all the experience brought by Alonso, who better to rub succes on to Dennis’s and McLaren golden child Hamilton?

    2. Allegations from Alonso that McLaren (British team) are favouring Hamilton (British driver). As there are arguments for and against, you and no one can confirm the validity of this (unless your a McLaren mechanic/engineer/insider). The British media villifies Alonso

How do you know if Alonso was put in todays Mclaren with todays tyres and todays regulations (and vice versa Hamilton in Alonso’s Ferrari) that Alonso would still be ‘beaten’?

Heres a home truth for ya mate: This years McLaren is widely considered better than Alonso’s Ferrari yet Alonso is beating Hamilton in championship points. Alonso is proving he is better that Hamilton then yeah?

No, you moron, he ended the season on equal points with HAM even though the entire team wanted HAM to take the title.

You see, the golden boy of that SOB that ran McLaren in those days had loads of practice before entering F1, he wasn’t a rookie. Rookies don’t have thousands of Km worth of mileage in F1 machinery and a close relationship with the entire team before entering their first GP.

Plus, the GP2 tires suited HAM in the first races, while being difficult for ALO, even though he took his first win in the second race of the season.

When the team is against you I imagine it feels like hell working in F1. I mean, look what’s happening with HAM at the moment because BUT is more equally popular within the team. I would like to see HAM performing while being the enemy of the team, as ALO was treated back then.

Even so, ALO managed to slap the whole team over their faces, including said SOB, and handed both titles to Ferrari, which he now leads. It’s all down to his mental strength, that’s what makes him so good.

Get your facts straight, boy, and stop thinking like a socker fan. HAM is not as good as ALO, that’s a fact.
He can drive, but he’s not that good.

Shaheer, Alonso has already been beaten by Hamilton at Mclaren, no more proof is necessary that Alonso is not the best driver. The best driver is not beaten by a rookie. This will never be forgotten. Alonso as the best driver is is a myth beleived by those who dont look at the facts.

Massa has never been a top driver. This is exactly what Alonso needs to position himself as a geniues. Put him in the same car with Button, Rosberg, Hamilton, or Vettel, and he will immediately fail.

Why do I get the feeling that Alonso giving Massa permission to kiss his ring . . . er, rather, saying he is “one of the best” is the overt moment of a lengthy Ferrari kiss-of-death for Massa?

  6. Shaheer 6 November, 2011 at 4:36 pm

@visz963 Alonso is currently the best driver out there regardless of points and he does not need a weak partner to prove that.. His wins and performances say it all.. It all boils down to the car and what you make of it and there is enough said about it… Hamilton temperament completely outshines his talent and that is why he can never match up to alonso ever…. Massa has done his part for Ferrari… He just has been unfortunate.. How many people do you know that can recover from the trauma he went through last year and still finish top 10 all the way? We will know soon when Ferrari get their act together..

  7. visz963 6 November, 2011 at 3:54 pm

Alonso knows that he needs a weak teammate in order to look like a good driver. That why he wants to keeps Massa. If Ferrari puts someone like Hamilton in the other car, than Alonso would fail, as it is already proven.
Summary: Alonso wants to keep his salary.

So Massa is one of the best…… Alonso has beaten him hands down…… Hamilton ran Alonso very close as team mates…. and Button has comprehensively out pointed Hamilton this year therefore …………

  11. stewy33 6 November, 2011 at 6:40 am

All points considered Alonso has proven to be the better driver.

  12. Sennauno 6 November, 2011 at 5:27 am

giving a driver a competitive car to improve his performance is a no brainer….a good driver will take a dud car (like a 150 Italia) and regularly put it on the podium…has Felipe had 1 podium this year?

  13. sennafan 6 November, 2011 at 1:44 am

Massa is one of the quicker drivers.we cannot completely underestimate him.give him a competitive car and then he can perform the way people expect.

  14. Snakes 5 November, 2011 at 5:07 pm

    u missed the point

  15. Butterfly 5 November, 2011 at 2:38 pm

@Snakes: Just watch the qualifying for the 2011 Australian GP and see Massa spin the car at the pit exit. You can take that LOL and shove it up your a*s, mate. Have a nice day.

  16. Snakes 5 November, 2011 at 2:24 pm

LOL “Felipe needs loads of grip to drive the car, Fernando doesn’t.”
if every body had loads of grip they all be fast.. currently he is where he is and load sof grip wont change that…

  17. Butterfly 5 November, 2011 at 12:50 pm

Guys, Felipe is better than in 2008, he has more experience, it’s just that he can’t adapt to the lower grip levels of the current cars, whereas Fernando can.

Felipe needs loads of grip to drive the car, Fernando doesn’t.

  18. Infallible 5 November, 2011 at 12:47 pm

He was brilliant before he had the accident.. but now he doesn’t look like a ferrari driver.. not a real threat to alonso..

  19. alonsofan 5 November, 2011 at 11:16 am

looks like alonso actually has respect for massa.btw massa lately has started outqualifying fernando.maybe the slump in his performance is coz of pirelli tyres
