Nov.17 (GMM) Lewis Hamilton “destroyed” Fernando Alonso as a rookie in 2007, but this season he underestimated his current McLaren teammate Jenson Button, according to team boss Martin Whitmarsh, who admitted to F1′s official website that Hamilton has endured an unusually bad season in 2011.

“Lewis expects more from himself and the world expects more from Lewis. There’s been a lot going on in his life,” he said.

At the same time, countryman Button – written off by some who thought he was entering Hamilton’s “lion’s den” after his championship year – has surprised the F1 world by beating his highly rated teammate this season.

“Jenson … is a person that is easily underestimated,” Whitmarsh acknowledged, referring to the 31-year-old’s “superb manner”.

“Sometimes that might be a worry before you know him better, but I have to say that I know him a lot better now.”

Whitmarsh thinks Hamilton also underestimated Button initially.

“Possibly. He probably did, yes. Let’s be open about it,” he said.

“Lewis, throughout his career, has destroyed every teammate that’s come his way. Bear in mind that in many ways he virtually destroyed Fernando Alonso when Fernando was a two-time world champion and Lewis was a rookie.”

I wondered how long it would take for the hamilton fan Boys to take control of this article like many that are on Yalla and ruin the reputation of this site.

The fact is its always the same broken record with them, the same rose tinted spectacles and that same defensive attitude, calling us all Alonso fan boys clearly shows you havent read these comments properly after clearly stating i for one was a schumi fan and others stating allegances.

Stacey i can only assume you only started watching F1 since 2007 and have fallen for your beloved and crooked hero Hamilton. No way were these comments rants nor offensive. You say Hamilton is the one driver that can get the most out of the least but look at Alonso this year? third quickest car on the grid but is still 3rd in the Championship? Whereas Hamilton has a much faster car, yet is languishing back in 5th place? If thats getting the most out of the 2nd quickest car in the grid i dont know!

Of course Alonso would say those comments about Hamilton! Its all PR man! What would everyone say if Alonso turned around and said yeah im the best driver on the grid and i can get the most out of a crap car, no one else! there would be a huge uproar, it would be suicide! Plus its all mind games as we all know him and Hamilton have had previous!

As @abdellah said its all about himself, Lewis is his own worst nightmare and until his minset is correct and is realistic about his options he will not challenge for a WDC that is Fact! No one is questioning his talent, however he is far too arrogant and unrealistic and this is all due to him jumping into one of the best if not the best team on the grid, ever since he burst onto the scene.

Stacey you say Hamilton was a rookie in 2007 but he had 11 years to be moulded by McLaren. He had thousands of miles of simulator tests PR garbage and F1 tests inbetween all in preparation, this is all something a typical young rising star doesnt get the opportunity to do.

I think before you post next time you have a long hard think about the knowledge you actually possess about F1 rather than drivel on like a Hamilton Fan boy. Until then no one on this site will take you seriously just like the others.

    Peace out.

and regardless if your of the opinion Hamilton destroyed Alonso in 2007, how much longer is he going to be able to hang his hat on that fact? do you think if Button beats him again the answer will be ‘oh well but Lewis showed Alonso up as a rookie so its all good’ ?

Think about this:did Alonso didnt get a 2nd go at Hamilton as Button has..I wouldnt have recomended it for Alonso anyway…unless he was from Yorkshire instead of Oviedo :)

  3. Sennauno 18 November, 2011 at 2:23 am

    @visz963

2007 season – Hamilton 108 points, Alonso 108 points. wow thats really ‘destroyed’….now I’m no Alonso fan but your a retard. Grow up

wouldnt take much for a McLaren principle to say that Alonso got ‘destroyed’…wether its an ugly driver-team bust up to the media hyping up the story, I urge you guys to read between the lines. It would raise the standards in this forum greatly & we would stop talking about bollocks

  4. visz963 17 November, 2011 at 11:25 pm

Yep, destroyed. Idiot alonso fans should finally used to that. The best driver (as he thinks about himself) …. beaten by a rookie. Then alonso escapes to save his image.

    alonso – fail

let me put it this way , if there’s anyone who destroyed lewis it is himself. in my opinion i think he has a huge amount of talent but his main issue remains his mental attitude. in his first year in a mclaren he was realy really good let’s say as good as alonso, but from that year on his ambition and hunger for success got the better out of him. all of a sudden changing his targets from winning a single championship to winning 8 or something .i think that he should learn a thing or two form sebastian vettel who as he often states takes it one race at a time and not targeting being the best in history. but i’m sure in the back of his mind vettel has this target of being the best of all time . and he is in no rush unlike lewis .
so one step at a time and some patience. but good things come to those who wait

Stacey need to turn his wife up..His stupid comment hating on Alonso yet Hamilton your buddy O’ pal has shown dog shit of a drive since 2007. You HAVE know relevant point…Your the guy who goes to battle forgetting his ammo. Believe that before you post on here scum.

p.s. your boy Hamilton also said…Alonso is the best driver if you were bloddy listening to the post conf. interviews. I guess you suck balls and not listen.

Like I said. Keep the ammo on you. Your a walking dead man m8.

Only a guy named “Stacey” would blog that crap out.

  7. illusiongt21 17 November, 2011 at 10:28 pm

Destroyed…that is definetly not the word.

Funny, because how is Alonso destoyed when you dont hear anything abut relationship problems between his mates and his wife? Yet Yalla puts an article out as he was “DESTROYED” ? GTFOH!!!!

Why all of a sudden we see 2 drivers show respect and a nice buddy hug to congratulate eachother on podium then all of a sudden few days later…Hamilton DESTROYED Alosno? wtf? You bloody wish!!!!

Yet…STILL…Button has 1 title. Hamilton 1 title. Yet Alonso has 2! And in 2010….He was 4 points shy from his 3rd CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

What the freak is Yalla or whomever wrote this stupid article up is an idiot for life!

It is amazing to read all you Alonso apologists excuses, it was obvious Lewis handed Alonso’s ass to him wrapped up in a bow.If you don’t think a rookie driver(and he was a rookie) whupped up on your beloved hero, 2 time world champion you are insane. If you dont believe it ask your boy Fernando, who did he say was the best driver? Who gets the most out of the least? Lewis! Nuff said now come with your pathetic weak nonsensical rants when your lord and savior already blew all your arguments away. Btw what the hell is Martin Whitmarsh thinking? Ron Dennis needs to come back and whip things back into shape, there is a direct corrolation between RD retiring and the cars development going to hell.

    @Butterfly and Twiinz

Its nice to see some mature F1 fans that agree with me and are open to an honest discussion, its usually full of Hamilton fan Boys with articles like these that seem to put on the rose tinted Spectacles.

I dont know who wrote this articles but my guess is hes a secret hamilton fan ;) Based on this pure opiniated rabble thats consistent through the whole read. How they came up with the title “Destroyed” is completely beyond me!

The Situation at McLaren is a very complicated but interesting affair. I think hamilton whatever PR speak he does, really doesnt respect Martin Whitmarsh in any way. To publicly slate his team principals comments on his own behaviour and why he is struggling this season is beyond me! I can only think what the team would be like if Ron Dennis was in charge!

Whitmarsh has a “wet lettuce” approach to running the team trying to protect his drivers etc, Ron Dennis on the otherhand was a no nonsense guy like Ross Brawn. If his drivers were doing bad rather than making up excuses would tell them to buck their ideas up!

This season i think Lewis’s attitude stinks, things arent going his way so hes decided to throw his weight around which i think has cost him. I agree with you Twiinz that after 2012 if Hamilton does not show his “old” self the fighter that he is, McLaren will be forced to look at someone else. His lack of maturity has showed this season when on the back foot when Button has been on top. However i think you underestimate Button’s racecraft and mind management. He has pin pointed Hamiltons weakpoints and capitilised on it in my opinion.

All this PR garbage that both drivers particularly Lewis drivel is insane! it must be in the McLaren contract or something and i think acts as a distraction through the year when both drivers should both be focussing on driving.

You two are correct in that the only thing holding Lewis back from winning another title is himself.

Im a schumi fan personally and next year if Mercedes can give him a cracker of a car i would wishfully think he could challenge for race wins! at the ripe old age of 42 he has impressed me vastly these past 5 or so races really out performing Rosberg bar Abu Dhabi!

One thing Schumi haters hate is his arrogance and persona, but it is scarily like Senna. His drive in Monza was Senna esque in Defensive Driving. He doesnt care what anyone thinks of him and only cares about one thing and thats winning – something Hamilton could take note of due to him taking personal offence things are said about him.

anyway rant over! cheers for listening!

@ JC and F1 Follower 1991: You both are spot on. “Destroying” with = points is a joke. One the Button issue, I think Martin sees the writing on the wall with Lewis. If Lewis doesn’t fix his PR issues, Maclaren may look elsewhere. In 2007 Lewis was at 100% of his game with Maclaren totally behind him instead of Alonso. Even so, they were even points in the end. The only reason Jensen got the upper hand this year is because of Lewis’ mistakes with over aggression. Button is a very good driver, but he has nowhere near the raw talent as Hamilton or Alonso. I am no Hamilton fan, but I look for him to mature alot in the coming year. If he does, he will definitely win another title or even 2 in his career. The epic battles in the near future will be between Alonso, Vettel, and Hamilton. Jensen will be a distant 4th or 5th.

    @F1 Follower 1991:

You sir are 100 percent right.

Still, is there a war looming between Martin & Lewis at McLaren? Martin is always trash-talking Lewis and hyping Button like there’s no tomorrow. What’s going on?

  12. F1 Follower 1991 17 November, 2011 at 3:36 pm

This article is a complete farce? i dont consider Hamilton and Alonso finishing on the same points as Hamilton “destroying” Alonso as they put it.

On another note i didnt consider Hamilton a rookie in 2007 either. He has been associated with McLaren since 11 years old. He did thousands of miles of simluator work, had their full backing and was moulded to be their “perfect” driver for when he bursted on to the F1 Grid.

I am no way an Alonso Fan (schumi fan) but i felt so sorry for him in 2007. It was clear to see the team revolved around Hamilton and Alonso must of felt like such an outsider.

I used to detest Alonso during his Renault days but in recent times i have come to really respect the man and his ability based on his drives in that truck of a Ferrari – this year especially.

All this pro Hamilton talk and Alonso hate, and even to other drivers like vettel confuses me. Hamilton is a very lucky boy. He has been in the best or 2nd best team on the grid his whole F1 career, something a lot of young new drivers have to work very hard to get to, just look at Button? And when things dont go his way he throws immature tantrums, even bad mouthing and rubbishing comments made by his Boss MW who is trying to defend him.

Im expecting a barrage of abuse for this comment from Hamilton Fans but at the end of the day thats my opinion.

    Peace out!

  13. JC 17 November, 2011 at 12:15 pm

Alonso is 2xWDC and Hamilton is 1xWDC.

Temperament wise Hamilton is unstable and make more mistakes than Alonso would or rather Button would. Hence, Alonso is by far the best of the rest on the current grid.

Vettel is also a 2xWDC now, but i still feel he buckles under pressure, and next year would be his true test.

  14. Big joe 17 November, 2011 at 11:32 am

Alonso is the best ever and he will win next year with ferrari

  15. Butterfly 17 November, 2011 at 10:54 am

I don’t get it, MW really wants to see a war between Lewis and Fernando. Something is fishy here.

Also, why is he protecting that SOB JB so much? What’s really going on?
