Are the F1 cars of 2012 the ugliest ever?
Feb.13 (GMM) Formula 1′s cars of 2012 remind one expert pundit of “a supermodel without her best assets” and could well be the ugliest F1 cars ever.
Former driver Hans-Joachim Stuck wrote in his German column for Eurosport that he dislikes the look of this year’s formula one cars.
“The tyres are too narrow, the rear wing too small and the front wing too big, and the nose is a complete failure,” he said.
“It’s like imagining Heidi Klum without her nice behind and bosom, and that’s unfortunately what they’ve done with the new cars.
“Let’s hope that they’re fast, at least.”
Tyre supplier Pirelli’s motor sport director Paul Hembery recently slammed the new cars for being “pig ugly”.
He told The Sun it could be a turn-off for potential new fans and sponsors.
“It is what a lot of people will say who are maybe not as intimately involved as we are,” said Hembery.

The 2008 BMW is many peoples favorite F1 cae ever. Most engineers refer to it as AERO PORN.
Agreed Sauber F-1 looks best so far.
ugliest ever? you gotta be kidding…mountains out of molhills IMO. half way through the season if someone brings up the dolphin nose…’what dolphin nose?’ I think people will get used to it. Pretty it is not…but I love how the Sauber has softened the effect of the nose with carbon fibre look though. The Ferrari is the ugliest as the red accentuates the nose
Define ever…for people who been watching F1 for 1-5 years then they are the ugliest ever. But in further study of the History of F1, surely you couldnt go past the 70′s/beginning of the 80′s for the max visual displeasure…horrendous. Purely functional creatures
@ nemo
funny that you mention the 2008 BMW as i recently saw that one in someones at no.2 of a personal list of best looking cars…! conclusion: beauty is in the eye of the beholder
I dont mind the cars at all. Sure the step in the nose isnt great, but why get fixated on that one part? Remember the 2008 BMW? Now there’s an ugly car. The modern cars are a lot cleaner
Yes these car, minus the McLaren look F-ugly. The Indy Car new model DW12 is very awesome looking compared to the “speed bumps” we see with the F1 cars.
I’ve said it elsewhere – The cars are horrid looking.
I agree.
The cars are the most ugly, and I hate the way the rear wing looks too. But we can at least hope that they are ultra-fast, and the races are more exciting to watch.
I dont compare woman to cars. TheIR not even from the same planet. Every REAL man knows that. lol.
But they don’t have to be pretty, they just have to be effective.
I think you’ll find in the UK at least, hiding 50% of the races away behind a pay wall is more of a concern to fans and sponsors, in fact Paul Hembrey of Pirelli recently said this:
“Is this the future TV model in Europe? If that’s the case then we know from being involved in other sports that can create problems. Because you do end up with having less visibility so it is a concern.
our interest is in viewing figures, if those viewing figures fell as a result of the partial move to subscription television, sponsors will re-evaluate their participation in the sport.
“It would be disappointing in a market such as the UK which for us is important. But we’re not unique in that. Bernie would be looking to maintain viewing figures because he knows the sponsors analyse the calculation of value of the sport based on viewing figures.”
