Feb.22 (GMM) Mercedes are targeting a new two-year contract extension for Michael Schumacher, according to the Bild newspaper.

The seven time world champion, having returned to F1 with the famous German marque in 2010, has not decided whether or not to continue his comeback beyond this season.

“Bild knows that Mercedes wants to keep him,” said the newspaper, after the Brackley based team’s new W03 car was launched in Barcelona.

The report said Mercedes has decided to offer Schumacher, 43, a new two-year deal through 2014.

“Before we talk to any other candidate, our first contact will definitely be Michael,” confirmed team boss Ross Brawn.

Schumacher commented: “I’ll decide when the time is right.”

    why is it always a competition of knowledge with you? why are you attacking my opinions? why are you always off topic?

    ‘I mean quite clearly you arent THAT knowledgable as in another article you were saying just because Schumacher had dominant cars from 2000-2004 it meant he instantly had a dominant car in 2005, when i gave you the proof he had won 1 race all season long only when all michelin runners had withdrew you instantly backed off.’

    I mean clearly, you seem to want to display to the world how much you know (or really remember, with the help of google :) …if you refer to that article, I said ‘ just kidding :) ‘….geees you wouldnt know youve been trolled if you walked into it ;) c’mon be a sport…if you got any further hassle we can sort it out in the virtual car park :) Im not gonna display the discussion of where you were comparing PURE to Renault, Toyota, Peugeot etc….see?

    now back to the Mercedes wants Schumacher till he gets his seniors card:

    @sennauno

    Why always state negative opinions on driver’s you dont necessarily like? Is it too much to ask to share a neutral viewpoint on articles without getting the rose tinted spectacles out?

    I mean clearly you are a senna fan but pretty much every article about Button, Schumacher, Vettel etc all you do is post immature comments to other posters that are just showing their support.

    I mean quite clearly you arent THAT knowledgable as in another article you were saying just because Schumacher had dominant cars from 2000-2004 it meant he instantly had a dominant car in 2005, when i gave you the proof he had won 1 race all season long only when all michelin runners had withdrew you instantly backed off.

    Go figure, i mean im not exactly an Alonso or Hamilton fan but i appreciate the drivers that they are still.

    I think it will depend on how he performs against Rosberg this year.
    There will be no more excuses this year – he’s now had enough time to get back into it so there can’t be excuses like the car doesn’t suit him or he’s not used to the tires.
    If Rosberg beats him again, I can’t see him staying and playing 2nd fiddle to Rosberg.
    If on the other hand he beats Rosberg it will be a clear indication that he still has it in him to win races and perhaps a championship and in that case I expect him to stay.
    This would explain why he is not yet ready to commit.
    I’m really routing for him by the way, it will be wonderful to see the old master back on the top step of the podium again.
    I’d love to see him win 1 more championship and then retire in style.
    Can a 43 year old beat these talented youngsters almost half his age or is he simply too old and past his prime.
    Regardless of what happens, I don’t think people should let it tarnish their view of his legacy.
    He achieved a remarkable feat that anyone has yet to come close to by winning a whopping 7 WDC’s and by being involved in the fairy tale resurrection of Ferrari.
    In his ‘first career’ from ’91 to 2006 he competed against and defeated some of the toughest competitors in the sport representing multiple generations of drivers from Senna to Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen, Alonso, Raikkonen, Button, Webber etc.
    Only 3 of today’s ‘top’ drivers (Rosberg, Hamilton and Vettel) were not present when he won his last WDC.
    It’s hard to believe that if he was able to battle it out with Alonso and Button during these years that he would have been unable to compete against the likes of Vettel and Hamilton.He was considered better than Button who today is capable of beating Vettel and Hamilton.
    The comments made that he never faced real competition and that todays drivers are far more talented is ludicrous.
    Alonso is widely considered the best driver by his colleagues and Schumacher was able to beat him in ’04 and came close in ’06 only for reliability problems to let him down. Anyone who makes such a claim devalues the championship victories of guys like Hakkinen and yes Alonso too.
    Some people should put their opinions and dislike of driver personality aside and recognize the amazing achievement of the outright most successful and perhaps greatest driver the sport has ever seen.
    That Schumacher is able to compete against talented youngsters almost half his age when others incl. Hakkinen and Mansell failed miserably in their ‘old age’ is a remarkable achievement in itself.
    Schumacher’s comeback by comparison has been far more successful as Hakkinen and Mansell proved to be horribly and embarrassingly off the pace. I’m not taking anything away from these 2 drivers, just illustrating how difficult it is for even the best of the best to attempt a comeback at an ‘advanced age’.
    Winning another title will really cement this opinion for a lot of us, however if he doesn’t win another one, his legacy will remain every bit as strong.

    @matthias O’keeffe : i agree with your opinion

    Hopefully he will extend his contract for many many more years…
