Apr.30 (Apex) Lotus team principal believes that Romain Grosjean has the right stuff to go all the way and become Formula 1 world champion one day.
Grosjean has had something of a topsy turvy return to F1, showing strong pace during pre-season testing and in the early races. But first lap incidents in the first two races blotted saw to it that the Frenchman blotted his copybook.
However, at the Bahrain Grand Prix, the reigning GP2 Series champion came good with a strong showing which saw him finish third and take to an F1 podium for the first time in his career.
Boullier spoke to AFP in the aftermath of Grosjean’s best result to date, “You know what impressed me most, more than just the podium finish, was his speed and his racing. More than the podium finish, what was impressive is the fact that he finished so close to Kimi and just 10 seconds behind Sebastian Vettel.
“I was not expecting to have both drivers to finish so close together (Kimi Raikkonen was second) and that is good for us and for him. It means that he is now capable and ready to compete at the highest level. He has the speed and the talent to be world champion one day,” added Boullier who has a vested interest in Grosjean’s future through his Gravity Sport Management company which manages the Frenchman.
