May 9 (GMM) Ferrari’s title tilt could hinge on the competitiveness of the updated F2012 this weekend, in Barcelona.
“What I want is to have a competitive car in Barcelona,” insisted Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo on Tuesday.
“That’s what I’ve asked for,” he is quoted by Brazil’s O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper.
Ferrari had congregated at its Fiorano test track, to watch Jacques Villeneuve drive the 1979 single seater to mark the 30th anniversary of his father Gilles’ fatal crash.
But Montezemolo’s disappointment is with the latest Ferrari, which has been heavily updated since the Bahrain Grand Prix, three weeks ago.
“Our technicians are confident, but we will have to see how our opponents have advanced too,” he added.OEdSP correspondent Livio Oricchio claimed “Montezemolo knows” that anything other than a big step forward in Barcelona will mean Ferrari has to “start thinking about” its 2013 project instead.
“Now we have to make a quantum leap, to have a car that is more competitive, less difficult to drive, and gives confidence to the fans,” Montezemolo is quoted by La Stampa newspaper.
“Let’s see how it goes in Spain,” he told Rai television.
“I have asked for an extraordinary response from our engineers,” Montezemolo is also quoted as saying by Italy’s Sky Sport 24.
La Gazzetta dello Sport, meanwhile, quoted lead driver Fernando Alonso as saying: “Our goal is to be world champions in November, and if we are to succeed then we must do better than we have done so far.”
Team boss Stefano Domenicali agreed: “We expect a significant evolution that will bring us closer to the step we need.
“The Spanish Grand Prix is definitely open, as is the championship. I say this because we believe.”

Here the idiot viz963 is going on again with his favourite obsession – hate Alonso attack.
LOL @ below
visz963 is just a transparent troll. His knowledge of Formula 1 is terrible and has been well established. But since he always gets a response, he will always post his childish comments. Its called the law of the troll
@visz963 you are ALWAYS the first one to comment on any post relating to Alonso. Looks like you are more obsessed with him than any of his fans. You need to calm your big sh*t filled brain and relax a little bit. You need to consult a shrink for your obsessive compulsive hatred towards Alonso. Like shut the fu*k up and go leave your sad comments elsewhere. Here we try to have a healthy discussion about whatever articles that are posted. Your stupid comments that are baseless hold no value. Seriously, henceforth i urge all of you to not pay heed to this dumbass hater and ignore him. Maybe then you will learn how to shut your sorry mouth! good day
As Montezemolo said a couple of weeks ago: “Fernando will take care of the wins, we just need a good car”.
Lots of Mistake in My Para Above But I hope you understand what I was trying to convey.
@visz – Y are U always after Alonso, These things can happen if you try & Push to the limits. Alonso need that pace to outperform your heroes at front which is nothing but useless. Bring them this scprap ferrari & I can bet they can’t even move think of Q3. You need potential and determination of ALonso CLass. Other Day I read your comment about Alonso wants Massa like partner but the truth is Massa Wants Karthikeyn like fellow as his teammate so that he can always stay at Ferrari.
In order to have a competitive car you need to have driver who does not crash the car during the main test day, like Alonso did in Mugello. Alonso bad choice.
