Schumacher under fire as new Mercedes deal looms

31 July, 2012

Michael Schumacher (GER, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team), Jul.31 (GMM) Former F1 driver Christian Danner has criticised Michael Schumacher for making rookie errors in Hungary, last weekend.

Bild newspaper claims that the 43-year-old is very close to announcing a new deal to keep racing at Mercedes beyond 2012, but at the same time the newspaper wondered if the seven time world champion might “need glasses?”

“It had nothing to do with poor vision,” the German’s manager Sabine Kehm insisted. “Don’t worry, Michael is more than fit.”

She had been asked about Schumacher’s strange pre-race mistakes at the Hungaroring: first lining up in the wrong grid spot, and then turning off his engine when the start was aborted.

“We’re all only human and can make mistakes,” Danner told the German news agency SID, “but really they shouldn’t happen to a Formula One driver.

“If it had happened to a young driver, we’d all say he’s not ready for F1.”

Schumacher also attracted criticism from Romain Grosjean, who Finished third in the Hungarian GP, the Frenchman pointing out in his post race wrap: We had a good battle for the lead with Lewis [Hamilton] all through the first two stints, but then I got stuck behind Michael [Schumacher] who didn’t respect the blue flags at all which cost me a lot of time. Because of this I lost a place to Kimi, and at the same time a possible chance to fight for the win.”

Does Grosjean think he is already a world champion. He has still lot to learn. Leave Michael out and watch your own driving style. Grosjean also makes plenty mistakes and accidents. Kimi is the best for Lotus.

Michael is doing more than fine. For the first time since his comeback he’s up to pace with Nico. Some of you guys need to understand that you can’t just blame the driver(s). Mercedes has a “piece of shit” car, and has always had a piece of shit car since their comeback back in 2010. Give both Michael and Nico a car able to match the Red bulls, Mclaren’s of even the Lotuses and im sure you would see both of them end up in the top 3 on a regular basis.

Also I can’t believe that Grosjean is criticising another driver for his moves, since Grosjean is one of the biggest troublemakers this year, alongside Maldonado. Romain lost his place to Kimi simply because Kimi is way faster than him.

Michael is doing more than fine, considering the piece of shit car he has. He’s up to pace with Nico for the first time since he’s comback and yet you’re all complaining about him. Grosjean shouldn’t criticise anyone since he’s one of the biggest troublemakers along side Maldonado. Also he lost his place to Kimi simply because Kimi is way faster than him.

The way I see it, Michael’s purpose was to help Mercedes restructre the team and bring it around. This, up to a point, worked, but I think, like some of folks here, that, money aside, Mercedes didn’t have a heart in this project. It is obvious, from the example of Toyota, BMW, and others, that large makes, simply “don’t get” what makes F1 Team tick, and that shareholders play too much in this game. F1 Shuold be left to true racing outfits, like Ferarri, McLaren, Williams, and others, who are there for the money, sure, but also because there is not much else for them to do, this is simply what they do. And of course, Michael was really shit out of luck this season more than anyone else. I did some callculation and came to realise that he holds equal number of F1 championships, than the rest of F1 Champs driving this season together.

    @Time For Schumacher To Go

Stop blaming Michael for everyhting, dumba**, only 1 or 2 of his retirements was his fault… The rest of it was the mechanic and the car’s problem… So stop blaming him!! You’re not happy, don’t watch F1..

The whole Mercedes team is obviously struggling. The car is not even the equal of the Sauber or Williams, aggravated by poor strategy and pit stop performance. This is a team with two stars falling, Braun and Schumacher, simultaneously, for going on to three seasons in a row. It’s painful to watch. The reality is, Schumacher is not the core issue here, it’s the entire operation. From the top level corporate noisemakers threatening to quit at contrived slights, through tech failures, down to the simplest driver errors. Mercedes needs to pull its collective head out, on all levels. Then we’ll see what Schumacher is capable of. Hopefully that happens soon, age doesn’t do anyone any favors.

Former F1 driver Christian Danner, Wants his 2 seconds of recognition.
Romain Grosjean lost out to Kimi, because Kimi was faster even though he forgot to cancel his pit lane limiter.

Schumacher needs to retire, he has only scored one third place finish and that was because two cars in front of him wrecked and two cars in front of him lost their power. If not for that Schumacher would have only finished in 7th place that race.

So in 2 1/2 years into his vaulted comeback he has been nothing short of a total failure.

Compare Schumacher to Kimi who in only 1/2 a season with a smaller team who struggle last year before Kimi came on board. I think the writing is on the wall and it is clear, Schumacher has gone beyond his sell by date.

Quit taking up a seat Schumacher and let a young driver have a shot instead of being so selfish. If you insist on driving then start your own team out of your own pocket.
