Schumacher should know the rules says Whiting
6 August, 2012
Aug.6 (GMM) FIA Formula 1 Race Director Charlie Whiting has pointed a finger of criticism at Michael Schumacher and Mercedes in the wake of the recent Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Hungaroring race start was delayed when Schumacher, who at 43 is F1′s oldest active driver, lined up in the wrong grid slot.
Marshals then had to push the great German’s Mercedes off the grid after he deliberately stopped the engine, forgetting that the race re-start procedure had been changed way back in 2005.
Whiting, who is the official race starter and the highest ranking FIA official at grands prix, confirmed to German newspaper Bild am Sonntag that Schumacher caused the start chaos.
“Michael should know the rules,” the Briton added.
Bild asked Whiting if drivers are required to pass a rules test prior to being awarded their coveted F1 super license.
“Not by the FIA,” he answered.
“We assume that a team competing in Formula One knows the rules. It is the responsibility of the teams to ensure that its drivers – its employees – know the rules,” said Whiting.
Flanked by Rubens Barrichello (326 grands prix) and Riccardo Patrese (257), Michael Schumacher (299) is the second most experienced driver in F1 history.

I get a little tired of “he always had the best car” comments about Schumacher. 2002 and 2004 were the real dominant years, but in 96 when he joined Ferrari, the car was much worse than the Ferrari that Alonso is having to drive. If I remember rightly the engine didn’t make it round the parade lap in Michaels first Ferrari race.
I’m not sure about how I feel about Michaels return. This year it seemed justified – I mean why would you get rid of any driver than is fastest at Monaco and also has a podium? I think it’s a combination of the Mercedes car not being good at all (look at Nico) and Michael’s reflexes at 43 years old.
He has made a bundle of mistakes in his second career that he would never have made in his first. He obviously retired (or pushed out) too early. He was too good right up to his last race in 2006 to stop driving.
@Time For Schumacher To Go
I guess you didn’t saw this season Perfectly and not the Previous season too
Last year in SPA he started from 24th and Finished in a Strong 5th which shows how much he was capable of and Secondly this season he has a Strong start in Australia a Gearbox problem made him out of Contention for Podium finish and In China He lost 2nd place due to loss of Wheel Nut and in Bahrain a DRS failure and Gearbox problem made him to start from 22nd but finished 10th
These are all Examples for his capability.
A lot of people in the world was looking for a win from Schumacher and always give respect to the Best Driver who was always an Inspiration for lot of Drivers in the Current Grid also i request you to learn to give respect before Stating some thing on some one
P.S: I don’t want to say this but to clarify things for people like you I’m a Vettel , Kimi and Fernando Fan
maybe someone went overboard in criticising Schumie; but surely does one have to be a 7 time F1 champion to say something? C’mon just shut the f… up and stop gagging people with stupid rants. and I do not see any trolling.
as an F1 fan I am sad for Schumie. he has dented his legacy. he looks so ordinary and vulnerable now, not the invincible Schumie of then. can you blame it on age? maybe.. surely Mercedes have a tough decision to make. I think in returning to the grid everyone including himself overestimated his capabilities.
and pound for pound to me at their peak I would give it to Alonso ahead of Schumie without batting an eyelid. I will give reasons sometime maybe. and I am not a fan of Alonso.. quite the contrary.
@Time For Schumacher To Go
This is about your 1st comment, we are all sad that he didn’t get a win… Unless if you are not a fan, then i guess that would be your reason why you commented vulgar words like that…
How dare you criticise the greatest racing driver of all-time!? Who are you??? What have you achieved during your miserable crap life huh? Do you have 7 Formula 1 titles? Do you even have 1 title? NO! You don’t, pathetic fool! So you have absolutely no right to criticise this racing legend! Michael Schumacher is the 7-times Formula 1 Champion and has won 91 Grand Prix’ and is a living legend. What are you??? Nothing but a sad pathetic little troll!
Excuses,excuses, excuses, that is all we hear from Schumacher and his sad fans.
Face it Schumacher blew it and once again he quit before the race was over because he was running so badly.
The best thing Schumacher can do is call it quits for good. He has been nothing short of a total embarrassment for the last 2 1/2 years.
Even with his buddy Ross designing the car totally to Schumacher’s needs the last two years he has failed to deliver.
Compare Michael to Kimi. Michael, 2 1/2 years one podium due to two cars falling out and two cars wrecking and no likely hood of improving the rest of the season.
Kimi, 1/2 year back and 5 podiums and a shot at two wins with a great possibility of multiple wins before the season is over.
CW’s just saying that to distract people from the fact that he’s the real doofus.
whiting should also know how to do his freaking job!
schumi was too preoccupied with the faults of his car and his goddam tires that’s why he lined in the wrong grid slot. he turned off the engine because it’s overheating. maybe it’s an excuse or not but it didn’t benefit him.
