Frentzen blames Schumacher for spoiling it for older drivers
22 August, 2012
Aug.22 (GMM) Heinz-Harald Frentzen has taken a swipe at his countryman, former rival and one time stablemate, Michael Schumacher.
Once teammates, in sportscar racing, the Germans’ careers both headed into Formula One in the 90s, where Schumacher soared to uber-success and Frentzen won but 3 of his 160 grands prix.
So when asked if, notwithstanding his 45 years of age, he might emulate Schumacher by making a comeback, Frentzen’s answer was slightly less than diplomatic.
“It’s because I’m 45 now, and because Michael Schumacher has done everything he can to ensure that older guys are no longer so much in demand,” he told Motorsport Aktuell.
Frentzen drove for teams including Williams and Sauber, until 2003.

Your reading comprehension skills must be lacking because I said exactly :
Q: “Come on Tamburello are you really considering the Ferrari 310 was not a dog of a car compared to the Newey designed Williams.”
A: “. .While not the dominate car Williams had. . . ”
Q: “From the way you rolled off those facts it sounds like you did a Wikipedia job.”
A: How would you know it was an “Wikipedia job” unless you went there yourself? You can argue the how’s and the why’s all you want but facts are facts. Unless I erred somehow – where I got my “facts” seems a bit irrelevant.
Q: “The Ferrari yes was probably 2 or 3 fastest car on the grid”
Excuse me, that all I said by pointing out Ferrari was second in the Constructors table, Did I not? I really don’t know what your beef is with me. Never did I say the F310B was some world beater, I just pointed it wasn’t as terrible as some would like to make out either. By pointing that out you’re actually making my point for me.
LOL: Another big LOL for your comment.
@Tamburello_1994
Come on Tamburello are you really considering the Ferrari 310 was not a dog of a car compared to the Newey designed Williams.
From the way you rolled off those facts it sounds like you did a Wikipedia job. During the mid 90′s it was a regular occurence that less than 10 people would finish a race meaning if you kept your nose clean it would be easy to find yourself amongst the top 6.
Then we have the sheer prospect of Jacques winning a title in his second year, drivers that have done that before such as Fangio are considered legends, Jacques? not at all as everyone knows what a dominant car the Williams was, you could put Esteban Tuero in that and he would be champion!
The Ferrari yes was probably 2 or 3 fastest car on the grid alongside the 97 McLaren with the Benetton Renault just behind, however to take Jacques to the final race was clear evidence how much Schumi was out driving the car and to go on and then smash Frentzen’s record of points that season just echoes that. The thing is the 97 season, there was a huge performance gap between the Williams Newey car and everything else it was considered only a Williams driver woukld win the title.
To almost snatch the title away was considered a master stroke.
hey HEINZ KETCHUP! What a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! you are.
In other news, Ricardo Rossett said…….
Come on Heinz, like you had plans.

“….. and letting Michael, in the relatively poor 97 Ferrari completely trounce him.”
In 1997, M. Schumacher never finished lower than sixth. (4 RET’s) Ferrari finished second in the Constructors table. While not the dominate car Williams had, Some would argue the “relatively poor” comment. A better comparison would be to his teammate who had doubled HHF points in his second season in F1. (J.Villeneuve)
But since Michael was DSQ for the entire 1997 in the end, All that really doesn’t matter.
Frentzen should blame himself for not making the best of his move to a dominant Williams team in 1997 and letting Michael, in the relatively poor 97 Ferrari completely trounce him.
He’s the only team-mate that Villeneuve has ever gotten the better of.
Who would want him back? Another Trulli/Rubens journeyman, unlike Schumacher, who’s name can grace the sport for as long as he remains in the top 10 with the 5th fastest team on the grid.
Frentzen’s big mistake was not jumping to Williams in 1994 when he had the opportunity.
Can’t blame Michael for that.
@ lol Nice, proven fact even though at one time they were friends Frentzen hates Schumacher because Michael stole Corinna from him.
Enough said.
look at the Mercedes cars of 2010,2011,2012 and the Lotus car of this year which Kimi drives , it is way better than what MS is driving and has driven since his comeback. I really dont think you are seeing the entire picture tony sullivan. Brawn’s cars have been mediocre at best compared to RB and others since 2010 put Kimi in that Mercedes car and where would he be I ask you NOWHERE!
HHF was a great driver in his own day..More than idiots like Nelson Piquet Junior or Jos Verstappen..He actually does have a right to speak his mind. Something he rarely did in the spotlight. Still believe that MS is doing a good job unlike everyone else!
and in the meantime Schumacher is banging Frentzens’ old flame…
Now Frentzen’s opinion my god are they digging them up.
Harald is right – compare MS with Raikkonen
