Sep.2 (Reuters) Venezuelan Formula One driver Pastor Maldonado will suffer a 10 place penalty on the starting grid for next weekend’s Italian Grand Prix after making a false start and then causing a collision on Sunday.

Pastor Maldonado (VEN) Williams on the grid. Formula One World Championship, Rd12, Belgian Grand Prix, Race, Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, Sunday 2 September 2012.The Williams driver has collected more sanctions than any other driver this season and started Sunday’s race at Spa with a three-place penalty for impeding Nico Hulkenberg’s Force India in qualifying.

Race stewards said in two statements that they had handed the Venezuelan a five-place sanction for his next race for jumping the start and a further five places for causing a collision during the race, which he failed to finish.

Maldonado explained, “I made a slight mistake at the start because the clutch slipped out of my hands before the red light switched off. We then got caught up in the first corner incident and that compromised our race.”

“I’m disappointed because we could have scored some good points here, but it’s not long until the next race so we’re looking forward now,” he added.

Sky also showed the start from above in a reenactment and it used the data from the starters lasers or whatever and they said he clearly jumped the start in the post race show.

What an idiot and what a waste of space.. He should be out as 1) he is becoming a risk for other drivers 2) ruining their chances – Alonso and Hamilton are title contenders 3) giving space to real talents sitting on the bench

I think it’s kind of bullshit that Grosjean gets a race ban and Maldonado just keeps getting little slaps on the wrist. Doesn’t seem right at all.

I live in the states so I watch the race on Speed. The speed channel did the lights frame by frame in milliseconds and it proved he didn’t jump the start. This is my last post on this but the Speed Channel got it right and I don’t care what the SKY network you have to pay for has to say about it.

Makes me laugh he was worried about not having a drive with Williams next year, then he has a good qualifying gets on the grid puts his brain in neutral causes carnage.
What were they thinking putting him in an F1 car, did they ever look at the reports from the GP2 teams.
He has flashes of speed but is prone to crashing.
So you want to get Williams back towards glory let pastor loose he causes fire works.

The slow motion replay will show he didn’t jump the start. His car began to move the instance all the lights went out.

Don’t worry I agree he is a rubbish driver. He is great at qualifying but he can’t drive wheel to wheel to save his career.

It’s sure starting to look like these two kids have their brains in their seats.
I’m sure they will get black balled for next year.
You have to pay your dues in F1.
You don’t take out millions and millions of dollars of machinery just because you feel entitled too.
Then again, maybe these two are working for some of the big gambling houses and were paid to tighten things up. Hmmmm.

  12. Alemar 2 September, 2012 at 10:12 pm

“The clutch slipped out of my hands”, “The car slipped and unfortunately I rammed Perez out”, “My tires were slipping, very hard to control and I crashed someone”. Really? how many excuses to come? And yes, as @Lol. said, When will he finally be removed from f1?
