FIA changed rules to slow Red Bull claims Horner
6 October, 2012
Oct.6 (GMM) Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has admitted that he thinks that the FIA tries to level the playing field when a team displays dominance under a certain set of rules, and have reeled in his team’s performance this year.
Horner saidthat the regulation changes over the winter, including the banning of blown exhausts and the clampdown on flexible wings, have hurt the reigning back-to-back world champions.
“The changes over the winter had a big impact on us,” he told Kleine Zeitung newspaper.
Asked if he thinks the FIA specifically targeted Red Bull, Horner admitted: “I think history has shown again and again that when a team is dominant, then something like this [the rule changes] happen.”
And asked if he feels Red Bull has been treated unfairly in other ways, he added: “Let’s put it this way – some of the decisions we have seen this year I think you could say were quite harsh.”

By “it” I mean the rule changes made to slow them dow”.
@Steve Maximus
I think he’s well aware of that. He’s just saying that, well, they did it in the beginning of 2012. If he thinks it’s a result of a conspiracy, though, then he’s quite wrong. Seeing that happen is perfectly fair. At the end of the day, F1 is a game.
@ Steve Maximus;
Nicely put!
…Soon he will go on about how they always let their drivers race equally. Not bad for a nr 2 driver ha!
Huh, this is kind of funny. Is Horner telling us that RB are following the rules?
One must be completely daft not to see that the rules changes were targeted at Red Bull dominance in 2011. It’s not unusual, and happens on many sports, from bicycling to auto racing. The contention that Red Bull was cheating is ridiculous, and tedious. They had (and have) a well developed car, a strong team, and two excellent drivers. That is how championships are won. Ferrari failed to build a competitive car, and failed to get the rules changed to help them mid season. McLaren’s car also failed to live up to expectations, as did its drivers. Lotus/Renault were building, Merc also failed to deliver. Red Bull was on song against a field that was off their game, so they dominated at a a level above all expectations. That is not cheating, it is simply a strong effort succeeding against a struggling field.
What an idiot! The rules were changed to stop you guys cheating the intention of the rules. The exhaust blown diffuser would have been banned a year earlier but Renault said it would affect engine reliability. So give it up. Next you will say that Alonso being friends with Hamilton is a conspiracy to get Vettel. Oh Marko already said it.
