Schumacher: Vettel to Ferrari would be a challenge

19 October, 2012

Michael Schumacher and Sebastian VettelOct.19 (GMM) Michael Schumacher has admitted that his former protege Sebastian Vettel might accept the “new challenge” of a Ferrari cockpit.

Felipe Massa’s new contract for just 2013 has only intensified speculation that the Ferrari door for Red Bull’s double world champion is wide open.

Some think that the 25-year-old German has signed some sort of 2014 ‘option’.

Schumacher is quoted in Berlin by DPA news agency: “Seb speaks in high tones about Ferrari, but I don’t know what the future holds.”

Schumacher, returning to retirement at the end of the year, is Ferrari’s most famous and successful driver, having won five consecutive championships with the Italian marque.

Also as a two-time champion with a different team, Schumacher agreed to join the then-struggling Ferrari as a 26-year-old in 1996.

Referring to the Vettel rumours, Schumacher added: “At some point, it may be that he is looking for a new challenge too.”

    or maybe Alonso will play number 2? After all at Ferrari he didn’t get a title yet and his no.2 got closer to a title than he ever did in Ferrari losing it for just one point against Lewis himself.

    The rift that tore McLaren with Alonso was Alonso’s fault as much as Hamilton’s. Alonso was unhappy about being treated equal, and was not being shown a proper level of respect by Hamilton, who beat him his first year in the sport. Putting them together was a battle of prima donas. Vettel and Alonso on the same team would be another train wreck. Ferrari is an old-school team that demands #1 and #2 driver organization. Why would Vettel agree to that? No way will Vettel go to Ferrari before Alonso moves on or retires. The odds are better that he’d pass through McLaren for a short period, proving himself there and winning the WCC for them at long last (will never happen with Button/Perez), before taking Alonso’s seat in 2017.

    My Point is what Alonso car he Developed in that Ferrari Camp
    He didn’t have any thing to built.
    Ferrari never had a Problem free year in terms of Development race I believe past 3 years they have wind tunnel Problems. and all.
    And as Lol Said the Regulations will reset every thing so it was a Starting point as every one Starts with Zero on board.

    @Just a Fan:
    in 2014 the cars will be virtually reset having new turbo engines so Alonso would have built nothing at all.

    If Vettel driving for Ferrari causes Alonso the same “benefits” that Hamilton caused him while they were both at McLaren, after a symbolical 13 years of being a HUGE Ferrari fan, I will stop cheering for them. The spaniard has struggled 3 years to somehow build a competitive car together with the team, and the german will come and enjoy the benefits. Meh. Life’s not fair!
