Alonso: Ferrari have a lot of talk but very little updates
26 October, 2012
Oct.26 (GMM) World championship contender Fernando Alonso has reportedly criticised Ferrari’s lack of progress in recent weeks, as he pushes to regain his recently-lost championship lead over Red Bull’s dominant Sebastian Vettel.
“While there is little talk from other teams but many updates,” he is quoted by the German broadcaster RTL, “we have a lot of talk but very [few] updates.”
Ferrari has been recently open about its wind tunnel problems in 2012, which have meant many development pieces brought to the circuits in recent weeks have not worked as expected.
Alonso is reportedly resigned to fighting against Vettel with an inferior car.
“We need to improve relative to Red Bull, but to do what they have done is impossible,” he is quoted by the El Pais newspaper from the paddock in India.
“We cannot aspire to having the fastest car,” added Alonso.
He continued: “Words are useless. We talk a lot of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays about new pieces we bring to each track, but there have been many Fridays on which the words were for nothing.”
Once again, in the lead-up to this weekend’s race, much has been reported about Ferrari’s new package. “We’ll see if the words are true or not,” Alonso is quoted by Italy’s Autosprint.
“[But] for five or six races we have not seen anything positive.”

I understand it is hard for you to accept the facts. It is always hard.
@alonso_is_slow:
Well, end of story for you, mate. Not everybody is as messed-up as you.
There is nobody in the current lineup who could smoke Vettel in the same car.
Alonso on the other hand was ALREADY smoked by his teammates Hamilton and Trulli.
End of story.
Felipe alone would smoke Vettel in that RB8. People forget just how fast Felipe is, especially people like you.
Yallaf1 sucks..all news are crap and not reliable.
The drivers are bad. Alonso was beaten by all considerable teamates so far, he has no more than a big bad mouth (see the article), and Massa is a sub-zero. Good match.
@fools:
It’s not as healthy as Red Bull, but they’re not a bad team. The team principal has no business being there, that’s for sure, but the tech director, chief strategist, aerodynamicist, and the pit-stop guys are all top-notch. And, of course, the drivers – they would smoke every other driver pairing on the grid if the car was half-decent.
Not sure about the chief designer, though.
and the Ferrari are 2nd in the Constructors points. Yet, there labeled as a bad team. hmm…must be the crack pipe haters.
Alonso…
-Development skills are weak.
-He blames the team
-He wines
-He cry’s
-He cant drive
-He is a crybaby
-He crashes
-He is not a team player
Yet despite all that rubbish…he is 2nd in the WDC and was holding onto that before his DNF’s in a non superior car. Yeah…Alonso really is the best. smh, You crack heads are still smoking the pipe huh?
alonso_is_slow- he would be the first to comment smh.
This article is brought up to for what reason? Why is the article directing this as if Alonso is complaining. He is not complaining. He is just being honest that they are not inferior as a car compared to RB. Why is being honest these days gathering to much criticism? I rather have someone be honest towards me and read honest opinions then down played lies and mind games. This article is aimed for the haters of Alonso who fear for his 3rd WDC.
ferrari lost 2 wdc’s for alonso due to terrible strategy. he has not had a decent car since he arrived at scuderia.
@alonso_is_slow:
Yeah, whatever.
@Butterfly
your a sore loser, I did not post under any other name.
Give credit to RB for being innovative with their car.
Ferrari does not have the braintrust of that team.
They need to clean house and understand that the best minds are not always Italian.
Alonso is not to be criticised as he has given Ferrari more than they deserve.
They went in the wrong direction with the 2012 and I truly believe that the Renault motor produces more useable power than the Ferrari powerplant.
Look where Massa is again; the car has not gone in the right direction for improvement the last few weeks.
Ferrari is missing the obvious or ignoring it due to pride and political issues.
Too bad, the prancing horse used to be feared in F1, now they are just a decent team with some history and a red car.
He’s lying….there lots of new parts on the F2012.
OMG, the troll uses multiple names to promote his own BS.
Is it fun agreeing with yourself on YallaF1?
@alonso is slow
i agree with your first point. alonso is not a team player. he lives in his own world of ego. he can criticise his team but bashing his team like he is not part of the team is pathetic. he also should take reponsibilty for failures. drivers provide the feedback and team works on it, his technical side is getting weak and he is blaming team for that and also when updates start working he behave like only because of him they were able to bring that update i still remember when he said to Mclaren that ” i gave you 1 second” like no one else in the team worked on it.
I do want to praise Ferrari’s technical director, Pat Fry, that brainiac in chage of strategy that came from Red Bull, Neil Martin, and Ferrari’s tire specialist, Hamashima.
The pit stop crew isn’t bad either.
As I understand it, the person in charge of the windtunnel is called the aerodynamicist and is a different person to the designer.
For the last couple of years, the aerodynamicist at Ferrari has been an Italian who probably had no idea what he was doing since all cars ended up being pieces of crap. On september 1, Loic Bigois was hired to take over the windtunnel, which is probably the reason it’s been shutdown for recalibration – that is, he probably put the foot down for it to happen.
This Frenchman was aerodynamicist at Brawn GP, then Mercedes, where he solved the correlation problem they encountered when switching to 60% models, so he really knows his stuff.
The future looks good, especially from 2014. The engine is going to be good, I have no doubt about that, and the windtunnel is going to work properly. I am unsure of the design office. Nicholas Tombazis has a PhD in aeronautical engineering, but is he creative enough to produce good cars? We’ll see. On the driver side, Ferrari is top-class with Fernando and Felipe, probably the best driver pairing on the grid. They can easily smoke Red Bull on that alone.
The big question is what will happen next year. I’m betting on a slow start, even a bad first-half, followed by a superb fight-back when the pieces come together.
I hope Stefano Domenicali will not be part of next year’s team. The guy doesn’t have the guts to do anything. He should be called non-executive team principal.
That sums it up. Any questions?
@alonso is Slow
What butterfly said was right
Imagine you are in Alonso’s place and other drivers are always overtaking you with Superior Machinery and always overtaking you just before Win how would you feel
I’m expecting this kind of statements from Alonso and he did it
If i was alonso i will Be in Ferrari for one more year and if they didn’t change any thing then i will openly say to Paddock that after Mark Webber retirement i want to be in Redbull to win World Championships
It’s been a bad week for Ferrari on the PR front. First the wind tunnel excuses, Now all this. Kinda reminds me when A. Prost was critical of the team. Not likely we’ll see the same result.
Can’t say I blame Alonso here. Is there ever been a time since he’s been at Ferrari has the car been right? People forget coming out of the box first race they had major issues. Ferrari has been refining the car all year – What else can be done? At some point I would suspect there are getting diminished returns – Hence the “Blame it on the wind tunnel” BS. However, there seems to be a narrative setting in that Ferrari comes up short in the end. I had to re-read this article again because I just couldn’t believe it. It’s only FP1 and their waving the white flag already. Sounds like Fernando is starting to develop bitterness. Not good long-term.
Ferrari got caught out again this year. Exposed. And they are fooling themselves thinking last year(s) excuses will work this year.
alonso move from renault to the other team (mcLaren,renault,ferrari) always at wrong time… but i LIKE that. hahaha
@alonso_is_slow
May I ask – How long time have you bean on planet Earth, and what planet are you from originally?
Alonso is suck!!
Schumacher won his first championship after 4 years, and keep silent.
Alonso do nothing except driving, but now he complaint. Suck Alonslow!
@alonso_is_slow:
Regardless of how much you want to s*uck his d**k, he’s been very tolerant for three years now. The level of incompetence of Ferrari’s management is incredible, yet he kept cool for so long.
No other team would have tolerated such poor designs and management, yet SD is still there. Tombazis too.
So, yeah, read it how you want, but Vettel, for example, was telling his engineer to “do something” because he couldn’t overtake on fresh rubber in the fastest car.
Fernando has the right to kick Ferrari’s management. They really do nothing but talk, and he needs a competent technical team by his side, or else he’ll just waste the rest of his career.
1. welcome to the anti-team member Fernando Alonso. He turned against his own team at Mclaren and Renault as well.
2.He should also take responsibility for having a bad car – other drivers are fantastic test pilots like Schumi, Webber, Button while Alonso has no such skills.
Alonso is a fail.
