Bernie Ecclestone wants a grand prix in Cape Town

Bernie Ecclestone has revealed he wants to push out Formula 1′s already bustling calendar to 22 races in 2014.

This year, with New Jersey’s demise, the schedule has dropped from its original 20 grands prix to just nineteen.

But Russia is joining the action next season, and F1 business journalist Christian Sylt wrote in a City A.M. report that talks are on with Mexico and Thailand.

“Having races in the right place is what matters,” F1 chief executive Ecclestone told Sylt.

“The teams could probably deal with 22 races.”

The 82-year-old also said he would like Africa to host a race in the future.

“I want to be in Cape Town,” said Ecclestone. “I have been offered Durban but I think we would be better off in Cape Town.” (GMM)

Apex: well said. If they don’t like it, then just get out of that form of racing. the August break almost makes me want to just say to hell with watching any of it..

    Lol, lol.

Like I give two shits how some overpaid, world traveling, jet-setting spanner feels about working more hours! Even worse is when a multimillionaire driver who is living the dream dare complain. Like Webber! Just retire already, there’s only about 10,000 people waiting to take your job.

Anyone who complains needs to get over themselves and realise 99% of the modern world sees people working 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year. 22 races is fine. That should be the minimum. Especially if someone with a Grade 5 intellect makes the schedule in a sensible manner.

I sincerely hope this is the end of the archiac August break. No wonder the sport refuses to increase in popularity. That break is an insult to all working class people and more still to the average fan who wakes at 3am to watch live F1.

    I sincerely hope

This is why I love Bernie xD

I understand it’s pretty much an extra month of late nights and tiring days for the mechanics but to be honest I don’t understand why they don’t impose an 8 hour day rule for situations like that. These people are engineers, not slaves.
