Former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld has admitted he is badly missing being part of the top tier of the sport.

The 35-year-old German contested 185 grands prix between 2000 and 2011, but now races a Le Mans prototype in the World Endurance sports car championship.

“I miss Formula 1 incredibly,” he admitted to the Heilbronner Stimme newspaper. “It is truly the ultimate. I would love to be sitting in a good car.”

Heidfeld said the fact he now has more time to spend with his young family is “the only thing that makes me feel better” about no longer being on the grid.

He was a good reliable driver, a shame that he could not show his true potential . I rated him above rosberg and look how rosberg is doing now, rosberg has become a good driver and taking every ounce out of the mercedes
