The headlines in Melbourne last weekend were all about Red Bull dominating qualifying, before Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen eased to victory in the season opening Australian Grand Prix.

But Ross Brawn, boss of the Mercedes team, said the standout performer at Albert Park was Ferrari.

“On average, of all the lap times in Melbourne without traffic, Ferrari had the best race pace,” he told Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport.

“If they had done a two stop race, they would have won,” added Brawn, the former Ferrari technical director.

Actually, Spaniard Fernando Alonso made three stops compared to Raikkonen’s two, and finished 12 seconds adrift.

  5. Kimi rubbed Ferraris Nose in the dirt 22 March, 2013 at 12:39 am

    If this and if that.

The fact is not only did Kimi win the race he rubbed Ferraris nose in it when Kimi set fastest lap with 23 lap old tires.

The Ferrari had fresher tires and still could not catch Kimi.

Well he´s assuming the Ferrari could have it´s tires in check if they had run one stop less.

With one stop less you can´t run at the same pace either so it´s hard to say Alonso definitely would have won.

I had mentioned something similar to what Brawn mentioned to my friends and they all seem to agree as well.

If not for the 3 stop it would of been Alonso for the win. However being 5th on the grid they had a different tire strategy then Kimi starting from 7th. Creating a 10 sec gap between Alonso and Vettel including the same tire strategy coming from Vettel placing first off the grid.

Hopefully we can go for a two stopper in Sepang then :)
The race pace on F138 is indeed very-very good.

    Forza Ferrari!!!
